Last updated 28 September 2026. They apply to the Brownie app and to this website.
What you are agreeing with
Brownie is software you download and run on your own Mac. There is no account, no subscription, and no server of ours that your copy talks to. So there is nothing here about uptime, suspension, or termination — nobody can switch off a program that is already on your disk. If you stop wanting it, delete it.
The licence is the real document
The code is released under the
GNU AGPL-3.0, and your rights to use, study, change and share it come from that licence, not from this page. Where anything here appears to contradict it, the licence wins. You may run Brownie for anything you like, including at work and for money. If you distribute a modified version, or run one as a network service for other people, the AGPL asks you to publish your changes under the same licence.
Your keys, your accounts, your bills
Brownie ships with no credentials. If you configure a brain, it is your OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter key, and whatever that provider charges you is between you and them. The same goes for the accounts you sign in to — Google, Telegram, Slack, Microsoft — where that provider's terms apply to your use of their service and to anything Brownie sends them on your instruction. Brownie has no part in those relationships and cannot see them.
What Hands does, it does as you
Hands acts inside apps you are already signed in to, on your Mac, at your direction. It is built to stop one step short of anything irreversible — it never presses Send, never pays, never submits, never deletes — but it is software, and you remain responsible for what your machine does. Read the step before you tap it. Do not point it at anything you are not entitled to act on.
Use it lawfully
Read your own messages and files with it, or those you have permission to read. Do not use Brownie to intercept other people's communications, to build profiles of people without their knowledge, or for anything the law where you live forbids. The people in your chats did not install this; treat what it writes about them the way you would want yours treated.
No warranty
Brownie is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose. It reads with a small model that is sometimes wrong, and it will occasionally miss a thing that mattered or raise one that did not. It is an assistant, not a system of record: do not rely on it alone for anything with a deadline, a payment, or a consequence. Keep backups of your own data.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the authors and contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using Brownie — including lost data, missed messages, missed obligations, or charges from a model provider. This mirrors sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0, which govern in full. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
The name and the mark
The code is yours to fork under the AGPL. The name “Brownie”, the wordmark and the dawn icon are not — please do not use them for your fork, or in a way that suggests this project made or endorsed something it did not. Rename it and we will be glad you built on it.
Contributions
Contributors sign a short
CLA so the project can also be offered under a commercial licence later. You keep the copyright in what you write.
CONTRIBUTING.md has the rest; security reports go through
SECURITY.md, not the issue tracker.
This website
It counts page views without cookies and asks GitHub for the star and fork numbers. That is all, and the
privacy page says it precisely. The app never talks to this site.
Changes, and the law
These terms may change; the date at the top moves when they do, and the history is in the website's repository. They are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction — without affecting any right you have under the consumer law of the place you live.
